Minnesota is one of the few states that continues to tax the elderly on their social security entitlements. As a taxpayer in Minnesota, you pay taxes on that social security before it is paid to the federal government. So when Minnesota lawmakers tax you again when your entitlements are distributed out, it is considered double taxation on the same money that you paid in. Same with Medicare benefits, neither should be double taxed. This was previously illegal, congress rewrote the law to make social security recipients pay double. As Governor, I would eliminate the double taxation, I believe it is cruel and evil to double tax anyone, and I believe the Governor has a social and moral obligation to the great residents of Minnesota that have worked their entire lives the dignity of a fair social security check. This is an important topic for me and I would take executive action to stop the taxation immediately.
